In July 2009 we spent a few days at Boomi, a small town, population 90, near the Qld border. Boomi has a swimming pool complex which includes a hot artesial spa pool that would be the envy of many larger towns. The community run caravan park and store with powered van site $10 plus use of pools $5, for 2 people! The 7 km drive/walking trail of named trees is very interesting.

June 2009 Bird-song recordings and photos.

We are staying at the Gwyder Caravan Park for a few weeks and enjoying their four hot artesian pools. The fifth pool opens in a couple of weeks.

Birds are prolific in this park and the Pied Butcher-bird's various flute like melodious call is a highlight but the bird is proving difficult to photograph. Other birds featured today are the Red-rumped Parrot, Crested Pigeon, Mallee Ringneck Parrot and Bluefaced Honeyeater.

This is the second of two postings featuring the Low Head Fog Alarm in Tasmania.

I recorded the sound on 28 May 2006 and added 6 photos which are repeated while the real time unedited recording plays. There is approx. a minute between each of the four blasts on this high quality recording.

This is the first of two postings featuring the Low Head Fog Alarm in Tasmania.

This is a low quality video to give a feel for where the fog horn is situated. It starts with the end of one blast and after about a minute the next 3-part blast is heard.

The fog horn was restoted by local people who each Sunday at 12 noon start up the engine; fill the tanks with compressed air and let it rip for 5 minutes.
